Friends of the Climate Table at 2024 Sciencefest of Waco Arts Fest

Waco Friends of the Climate table at the 20th Annual Cultural Arts Fest, Sciencefest Division. We displayed a large artificial tree and invited visitors to place an apple (Post-it) on the tree, after writing or drawing a picture about what they do or will do to protect the climate/environment. Kids were uniformly excited to participate and many adults did as well. We had about 81 apples at the close of the event. We also displayed a laptop with a Powerpoint of climate disasters on a loop. For freebies, we offered our reusable bags (election edition), "Climate Crisis is Here" yard signs, and our business cards with 16 climate actions, with something for all ages. We also had chocolate miniatures, which were highly popular. The climate crisis is not a very high priority for most Wacoans, so we were successful in raising awareness. I had some good conversations with adults, who had questions about EVs and rooftop solar. I did not encounter a single climate denier. Deep thanks to our hard working volunteers Mike Tobias and Julie Kisacky.
