URGENT: EMAIL to HELP Decarbonize the New Riverway Development--instructions here

EMAIL WACO OFFICIALS NOW: MAKE RIVERWAY CLIMATE FRIENDLY!
At the May 28 FOC meeting, many letters were written calling for the City of Waco to include regulations that will help lower the City's GHG emissions.  As the masterplan developments Riverway is built, this is a perfect opportunity to include building regulations that will help  combat the climate crisis. If you could not attend the meeting, you may still communicate with the City officials and help us incorporate climate in the planning of the Riverway development.  We have had policy successes before, and we can win again if everyone participates.

PLEASE EMAIL CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS, MAYOR HOLMES, AND CITY MANAGER BRADLEY FORD NOW.   Of course, you should write in your own words.  You can make it as short as you wish, simply calling for climate change action in the Riverway development. Some talking points follow:

1) The Riverway plan includes detailed aesthetic regulations for homes.  How much more vital are climate-related regulations.
2) The City of Waco has been heavily pounded by the climate crisis, including heat waves, drought, water shortage,  crop damage, and floods.
3) Since Riverway will receive $130 million in public (TIF) funds, the City has an even greater responsibility to heed citizen input on subdivision rules.
4) There are many climate change-related building rules that could be included, but here are 5 modest rules that we recommend, that would be not be excessively costly for the City:
--the complex should be all-electric (NO gas lines or tanks).
--all parking lots and businesses should include level 2 or level 3 EV chargers.
--all larger homes ($300,000-$400,000) should be solar-ready (wiring to make later solar panel installation simpler and cheaper).
--all homes will have 240v outlets in garages suitable for EV chargers
--all public community buildings, such as 'Amenity Center Bldgs' will have rooftop solar panels and storage batteries.
