BIANNUAL CARBON SINK (SEEDLING TREE) DISTRIBUTION, October 2023
WACO FRIENDS OF THE CLIMATE biannual CARBON SINK DISTRIBUTION, Oct 21 and Oct 25, at two farmers markets in Waco.
--Mexican Plum (Prunus mexicana) was distributed at both farmers markets in Waco, during our fall distribution.
--The Plum was selected as its a native species, drought tolerant, good carbon sink, and produces fruit, especially useful for jelly preparation. Trees also help cool the urban heat island, provide shade, improve biodiversity, lessen soil erosion, and
clean the air.
--The CLIMATE CRISIS is rapidly worsening, and 2023 is projected to be the hottest year in recorded history. This seedling distribution allows citizens a chance to take a positive action to tackle the climate crisis. We provided an information card for each recipient that encourages everyone to take more actions in mankind's existential challenge.
--Deepest thanks to our volunteers, listed in the pics below.
--Look for our next distribution around Earth Day, in April 2024.
--If there is a tree you think we should distribute, contact Alan at anorthc@aol.com
