Solar For All Waco City Council

Waco City Council Business Session, Aug. 1, 2023: deep thanks to Waco Friends of the Climate members--Joyce NobisBruce Allen, Julia Kisacky-- who gave powerful 3 minute comments. We called on the City to apply for a "Solar for All" grant from the EPA, which range from $25 million to $400 million. The grant would lower the City's GHG emissions, provide rooftop solar for low income & disadvantaged people, strengthen the Texas electrical grid, and encourage collaboration with the TSTC solar technicians training program. We also thank our dozen members who submitted hand written comments we delivered to the council, and those on Facebook who emailed City officials directly. All these efforts have been SUCCESSFUL: the City has stated it IS evaluating the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for this grant, and deciding whether to be the primary applicant or a sub-recipient (working with another entity such as the state). Thanks again for the eloquence and courage of our speakers at the City Council meeting. Thanks to the City Manager & others in the City government for work on this application. If received, the Solar for All grant would advance environmental justice, and lighten the City's carbon footprint.
