Waco Friends of the Climate June Meeting

Waco Friends of the Climate meeting June 28, 2022.Waco Friends of the Climate had our 1st meeting following a 2-year hiatus because of the COVID pandemic.  There was a good crowd of 25-30 people.

The business session reviewed our projects during the past two years, followed by a discussion of upcoming initiatives.  Those included a FREE trees carbon sink distribution at the Farmer's Market Oct.29,2022 and planning for a live 6th Annual Climate Crisis Art Exhibit (hopefully at Art Center Waco) in early 2023.

The fantastic BBC documentary, "Life at Fifty Degrees," showed the lives of those impacted by the climate change driven heatwaves and droughts around the world, including Mexico, Iraq, Australia, Mauritania, Canada, and others. It was an extremely vivid and powerful look at the impacts of the climate crisis around the world.

A group action consisted of members signing a letter to Waco councilpersons & city manager, calling for replacement of all retiring ICE vehicles with EVs.

We are very pleased with our great new venue at the South Waco Library.

Thanks to all who attended and to all those who brought refreshments. And thanks to all who recognize the peer reviewed science establishing that the climate crisis is an existential threat. In Waco, there are still those, even progressives, afraid to use the words "climate change".
