VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Tell Waco City Council to GO EV Now in Police Vehicles!

From Alan Northcutt:

When:  Tuesday, July 19, 2022
Time:
Meet at 5:30pm outside Bosque Theater, session begins at 6:00pm.
Where:
Waco Convention Center, 100 Washington Avenue, Waco 76701.
Who:
any Waco Friends of the Climate member who would like to speak during Council session, 3 minutes or less in support of the rapid transition to EVs.
Why:
The CIty plans to again buy 34 Hybrid Ford SUVs and NO EVs.  We must explain that the Climate crisis requires the City and citizens move rapidly to Electric Vehicles.  Hybrids emit GHGs and toxic tailpipe pollution.  We call on the City to buy at least 1 EV now.
Logistics:
The Resolution to purchase these 34 Police Ford Interceptor SUVs have appeared on the CIty agenda, and we have objected, calling instead for at least 1 EV, to support the rapid transition away from fossil fuels.

I will address the specifics of the Resolution, as I have done so previously.    Our other speakers may speak more generally:  the climate crisis, why we must transition rapidly to EVs, impacts if we don't decarbonize, future for our children, etc.  Also, the City claims it cannot use EVs now because of the special equipment on police vehicles, yet police departments around the country have moved to EVs.
After session
:   After the council meeting, the Friends of the Climate will provide dinner at Bangkok or other local restaurant.
