Waco Friends of the Climate at ALTA VISTA Elementary School

Waco Friends of the Climate joined the ALTA VISTA Elementary School EARTH DAY celebration with an informational CLIMATE CRISIS TABLE., Tuesday, April 12, 5:30pm-7:30pm.

We provided reusable shopping bags to combat plastic pollution & the climate warming effect of plastic production.  The bags contained our business-sized cards with our contact information and 15 steps adults may take to combat climate change.   The bags also contained 8.5"X11" sheets containing steps for kids to combat climate change.  Examples: don't waste food, don't use bottled water, conserve energy by powering down all electronics at night.

The bags were happily received by all who walked by.  No climate denialism was evident in this crowd. This was a very pleasant group.

Alan Northcutt prepared a Powerpoint video covering basics of climate change impacts and the solutions mentioned in the handouts.  However, the format of the event was not well suited to slide show viewing.

FOC also donated about 6 books on the climate crisis to the Alta VIsta library. These ranged from "This Class Can Save the Planet" for 1st graders to "Our Final Warning: Six Degrees of Climate Emergency" for 6th graders.

Many thanks to Principal Lindsey Helton and Alta Vista for the invitation to participate. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening. We congratulate Ms. Helton for holding this event and helping to instill a concern for our planet in these students -- especially important in these times.

Thanks also to FOC member Matt Helton for his help with the breakdown of our table and for the photograph included here.
