Progressive Film Series: March 12th, 2015

BLACKFISH

Blackfish is the documentary for March.  The film relates the story of the killer whale Tilikum, a SeaWorld performer, who viciously kills two trainers.  It expands the discussion into the morality of keeping such huge and intelligent creatures in captivity.

This film is very educational about the habits and intelligence of killer whales, and the way in which man has trapped them and imprisoned them for our entertainment.   The documentary is moving on an emotional basis as well as on a scientific basis.  It emphasizes that we must learn to live in harmony with our fellow creatures as we convert to a low carbon energy system.

"An eye-opening ...gripping mindbender."-- Rolling Stone.

"A mesmerizing psychological thriller."-- Variety.
